南韓MERS疫情失控，台灣繃緊神經，有藥學博士研發防MERS茶飲，用中藥材的魚腥草、枸杞和薄荷製成茶飲，號稱可以抗病毒，並提升免疫力。另外，還研發抗煞茴香滷蛋，用茴香、丁香和甘草滷2天2夜而成。
2003年SARS期間，茴香就大受民眾歡迎，可以抗病毒；丁香可以消炎抗菌；甘草可以抗氧化和抗病毒。食材不一定要滷蛋，也能用其他肉類代替。對於這些民間流傳的說法，中醫師抱持保留態度，認為只能提高口腔咽喉黏膜免疫力，而且躁熱者不宜多吃滷製品，最好適量就好。
至於魚腥草，則被視為救命草，二戰廣島被原子彈襲擊時，民眾就採它自救，可以抗菌、抗病毒，枸杞則是保肝腎。加入薄荷可以殺菌。
此款養生茶飲除抑制輪狀病毒外，還有一些台灣民眾在面對咳嗽感冒時，會泡此款茶飲來喝。中醫師則認為，此款茶飲能增加口腔咽喉黏膜，提升免疫力，但是否真能抗病毒？則持保留的態度。
也有人拿中藥板藍根、金銀花來對抗MERS，兩味中藥之前在SARS期間就頗見功效。中醫師認為，MERS與SARS都是以發燒咳嗽為症狀，金銀花、板藍根都是屬於清熱解毒的，如果民眾沒事卻一直吃它，身體會變成比較偏寒。
